CREATORS ASSEMBLE - NHS 2020

This was a NHS embroidery challenge that Lucy
Matin on Instagram set up, collaborating with The Royal School of Needlework and The University for the Creative Arts.
The challenge involved creating an embroidery piece using the template to show our love and appreciation for our NHS during the strange time we are all going through right now.
I really enjoyed getting involved with this project and I think it was such an amazing idea to create this challenge for everyone to get involved in.

SENSORY -
Throughout my second year at university, as part of my embroidery specialism I knew I wanted to adapt a 'sensory/fidget' project. This idea came around as my brother is autistic. I thought it would be fun to experiment using the senses but I also had plans to involve him in some way during the project - which I did eventually do through my theory work.
The variety of samples I created involve alternative materials with very little stitch, I wanted to make my pieces very engaging and exciting. I wanted people to use all their senses when interacting with the pieces.
Materials used - Cable Ties, Elastic Bands, Bolts, Screws, Plastic, Ear plugs.
TEXTURE - 2019 Project
I produced these samples by taking inspiration from buildings around University. I have used Amaya and hand stitch techniques throughout these pieces to create texture and marks from the imagery I had taken of the buildings, focusing on the textures and marks of the buildings - I found this more interesting than giving away the full structure of the buildings.
ZERO STITCH 2019
Using alternative materials such as cable ties to create the same effect using stitch would. I have created a smocking effect, I think this has created such interesting pieces with zero stitch.
